Ingredients
200 g plain white flour (all-purpose flour)
100 g cold butter, cut into 1 cm cubes
100 g soft light brown sugar
1 kg cooking apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
1 tablespoon soft light brown sugar (to taste)
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, to taste)
Instructions
Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan / gas mark 6 / 400°F).
Make crumble topping: In a large bowl, rub together the flour and butter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add the 100 g of soft light brown sugar and stir until combined.
Prepare apples: Peel the apples, remove the cores, and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Place the chopped apples in a baking dish, add 1 tablespoon of soft light brown sugar and the cinnamon (if using), and stir until the apples are evenly coated.
Assemble: Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, making sure all the fruit is covered. For a delightful texture, create peaks and troughs in the crumble.
Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Serve: Serve warm, ideally with custard, cream, ice cream, or yogurt for an extra special treat!
Enjoy this classic dessert that brings warmth and joy to any gathering!
